On the road shared by motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians, the possibility of accidents is a constant reality. So in the event of an accident, how should you proceed?

If someone is injured, even slightly:
In the event of an accident, stop your vehicle to assess damages and check for injuries. This avoids hit-and-run accusations.

Call the police first. They will create a report required by the Société de l’Assurance Automobile du Québec (SAAQ). Don’t forget to request the police report number.

A minor collision:
Have on hand: Your driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance.

Use one form for two involved vehicles, or two forms for three vehicles, etc. It doesn’t matter who completes it.

Copy the information from the mentioned documents carefully.

Don’t forget to draw and describe the damages.

If there are witnesses, note their names and addresses in section 5. This is crucial if the other driver doesn’t cooperate.

Both parties must have exact copies of the completed and signed friendly report.

If the other driver doesn’t cooperate, fill out your form anyway.

After the accident:
